A Statement From Our CEO, Daniel J. Schrider
Today Sandy Spring Bank is commemorating Juneteenth and the end of slavery in the United States. As a Company, we have not officially observed this holiday before, but we recognize that it is the right thing to do today and every year.
Every person has immeasurable value and every life is precious. No one should live in fear or endure injustice because of the color of their skin. My heart aches for those who have suffered, and continue to suffer, for that exact reason.
Earlier this month, I invited all of our employees to share their experiences and perspectives directly with me about racial inequality in their own personal lives. The stories have been eye opening and heartbreaking. And while I will never be able to fully understand the life experiences of victims of racism, it is essential to acknowledge and empathize with their unjust reality. We will listen and learn more from our employees so that we can continue to take actions — as individuals and as a company — that are meaningful and responsive to what we learn from our people, because they are the heart of everything we do.
Every person we employ, every client we serve, and every business and community partner we work with will continue to be treated with the utmost respect. We do not and we will not tolerate discrimination of any kind. It does not matter who you are, where you are from, or the color of your skin — every person is worthy and welcome at our bank.
