Sandy Spring Bank is proud to be named one of The Washington Post’s 2019 Top Workplaces. This designation is given to companies that excel in leadership, employee engagement and company alignment. The winners are all chosen based solely on annual surveys completed by employees. Among the 152 companies recognized, Sandy Spring Bank was the only community bank to make the list, ranking 21 out of 31 in the “large company” category (companies with at least 500 employees).
“What makes this recognition so special is knowing that our employees think that Sandy Spring Bank is a great place to be,” said Daniel J. Schrider, President and Chief Executive Officer. “To be acknowledged as a Top Workplace is tremendous affirmation that our employees truly value and embrace the culture that we have built together—a culture that prioritizes people and authentic relationships with our clients, community and each other.”
Sandy Spring Bank is a place where employees tend to stay and build their careers over time. More than 53 percent of our workforce have been with the bank for more than five years; more than 30 percent have been with the bank for more than ten years; and nearly ten percent have been with the bank for 20 years or more.
According to Gary Fernandes, Division Executive of Human Resources, “Our employees say they connect with our mission of serving clients and being their advocate, and the positive, family-friendly atmosphere at the bank. “Employees also tell us they value all that we do for our community, the many volunteer opportunities available, as well as the accessibility of our senior leaders.”
Sandy Spring Bank encourages its employees to find their passion and to pursue it. Last year, in celebration of the bank’s 150th anniversary, employees planted 150 trees throughout the region, donated more than 60,000 meals to neighbors in need and trained more than 6,000 high school students in financial literacy.
